Dr. Kao-Ping Chua is a primary care pediatrician and health services researcher in the Department of Pediatrics and the Susan B. Meister Child Health Evaluation and Research Center at the University of Michigan School of Medicine. He completed his pediatrics residency at Boston Children’s Hospital and Boston Medical Center in 2010. Subsequently, he obtained a Ph.D. in health policy from Harvard University in 2015 with a focus on evaluative sciences and statistics.
Dr. Chua’s research focuses on the opioid epidemic, the affordability of health care, and low-value care, particularly as these topics relate to children and young adults. He is the recipient of the 2017 Academic Pediatric Association Young Investigator Award and the Nemours Child Health Services Research Award. His studies have been published in high-impact journals such as NEJM, JAMA, and BMJ, and have been covered by national media outlets such as the New York Times, CNN, and NPR.
